Action time — our days. Action place — film studio. It looks like it was rented for some strange art event. Here there are first participants of the action. Costumes are not brought up yet, and that is why they are dressed “from selection” — provisional costumes-drafts, only approximately similar to those that must be finished sewing for them now in the shops. In this atmosphere an incredible reality is born from nothing that at first glance has nothing to do with the era of Pushkin. There are no balls, no fans, no lorgnettes. And no “encyclopedia of Russian life.” Only feelings and passions. Sincerity and delusion. Movement toward each other and losses. And the four figures — as if a spotlight illuminated them out of the darkness — Onegin, Tatiana, Olga, Lensky. Instead of large-scale classics — a quiet love story.

“Onegin” is a world of our own experiences of the great novel. That one immediately wants to read again.
